Airports Group Objectives & Tasks
Objective 1:
To promote the viability of a safe and efficient system of airports.
Tasks:
• To identify examples of airport experiences and cooperative efforts.
o Publish articles in the Aviation Alberta newsletter.
• To promote the economic benefits of airports.
o Develop material that describes the benefits of airports – video, brochures etc.
(for community education)
• To develop the airport operators group segment of the Aviation Alberta website.
o Increase web site sponsorship and advertising.
o Add links for other aviation organizations.
o Maintain paid sponsor links.
Objective 2:
To act as a unified voice for Alberta airport operators.
Tasks:
• To increase membership
o Identify benefits
o Prepare a promotional brochure.
o Promote membership using the brochure.
o Prepare a list of prospective members and identify the decision make for
membership solicitation.
o Executive members to phone or contact airports.
• To contribute pertinent material for publication in the AvA newsletter.
o Electronic copies of the newsletter will be sent to as many aviation organizations
and individuals as possible.
o Printed copies will be sent to AAMDC, AUMS, Nav Canada, TC and Alberta
Infrastructure and Transportation.
• To raise the profile of the Association and the Group.
o Participate in two industry stakeholder conference per year.
o Enhance the display materials on a continuing basis.
o Encourage the Executive members and management to speak at advocacy event.
Objective 3:
To lobby all levels of government regarding funding, rules and regulations and
policies.
Tasks:
• To establish contact with the Provincial Government at all levels.
o Keep regular contact.
o Get updates on provincial policies and disseminate to members.
o Prepare a comprehensive policy proposal for provincial funding and support of
community airports.
• To make contact with the municipalities though AAMD&C and AUMA.
o Maintain contact with the Executive Directors of the Associations and their Boards.
o Maintain ongoing communication to identify mutual opportunities..
• To prepare Aviation Alberta position papers.
o Maintain an ongoing awareness of issues that could possibly impact airport operations.
o Identify issues of interest and relevance to the Group’s membership
o Determine if there is a consensus position on these issues
o Prepare position paper where appropriate.
o Participate in forums to convey these positions.
Objective 4:
To facilitate the exchange of information between airport operators and enhance public awareness regarding the benefits of airports.
Tasks:
• To maintain a membership list
o Post on website
o Distribute to membership
• To participate in the coordination of the annual conference.
o Prepare the Airport Operators agenda and speakers.
• To prepare airport services information outlining the services and costs at each airport.
o Update the rates and fees schedule.
• To update the services and suppliers list.
o Ask Transport Canada for nationally accepted materials list.
o Compile list of appropriate service providers.
• To collaborate, communicate and liaise with organizations that share common interests.
o Attend municipal organization conference and tradeshows such as AAMD&C,
AUMA, and LGAA.
o Attend and liaise with NCDC
o Attend and liaise with BCAC.
Objective 5:
To encourage the awareness of the capabilities of the association members.
Tasks:
• To promote the Airports Award
o Encourage nominations.
o Prepare for presentation of award.
o Present award.
Objective 6:
To provide educational seminars and workshops for our members.
Tasks:
• To hold educational sessions – airport maintenance seminars
o Schedule sessions addressing issues at annual conference.
• To provide education on airport safety and management.
o Promote safety and airports at AUMA and AAMDC conference.
o Update the airport services vendors list.
o Develop relevant material for the website.
Objective 7:
To administer the Airport Operators Group’s financial resources to the maximum benefit of the members.
Tasks:
• To report annually to the Airport Operators Group.
o Prepare a report of activities
o Review the financial accounting.
o Prepare a business plan and budget.
• To hold regular Executive Committee meetings.
